Street Food in Prenzlauer Berg

A great place to experience street food in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg is Street Food auf Achse.

Located in the KulturBrauerei, a former brewery that has been converted into a culture, entertainment and shopping centre, Street Food auf Achse has a unique and historic venue. This vibrant market brings together an array of food trucks and stands, offering creative and diverse dishes that cater to both locals and tourists. The selection is very international and enables one to explore specialties from a variety of countries, such as Mexico, Brazil, Poland and South Korea, all in one place.

The foods offered range from Pad Thai, Jerk Chicken, Dumplings and Quesadillas, to delicious Pavlova Baiser Desserts and Donuts. No matter the taste, there are tasty options for everyone. There is excellent coffee and other drinks too.

On some Sundays there can even be live music.

In colder months, fire pits are set up on the KulturBrauerei courtyard to keep you warm, no matter the weather.

If the weather turns sour, the adjacent Frannz Club offers a protective indoor space. In spring and summer, the Frannz Club beer garden and courtyard offer shaded and sunny spots for relaxation.

Guests pay the food trucks directly.

The street food market runs every Sunday from 12 noon to 6pm, from 25 January to 8 November.

Kollwitzmarkt

There are two different markets on Kollwitzplatz, and they are not the same thing.

Thursday is the Ökomarkt – the organic market run by GRÜNE LIGA, where around 40 traders from Berlin and Brandenburg sell certified organic produce only. You will find fresh organic food, craft products and culinary treats: cheese, eggs and meat from Brandenburg, clay-oven pizza, raw food, grilled sausages, muesli, soups and wild herbs, alongside natural cosmetics and textiles from organic production. It is a popular meeting point for Berliners looking for high-quality, sustainable products.

Saturday brings the classic weekly market. It is not purely organic, but it is bigger and more colourful: food, street food stands and crafts. It is a little pricier than other Berlin weekly markets, but the quality is high, and you notice quickly that this is where the neighbourhood does its shopping.

In winter the market gives off a tempting scent of ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon from the mulled wine and waffle stands. In summer, under the canopy of the many trees on Kollwitzplatz, it is at its liveliest. Grab a wine or an Aperol Spritz and explore the stalls with a drink in your hand.

Kollwitzplatz is about a ten-minute walk from the KulturBrauerei, so a Sunday at the street food market and a Thursday or Saturday morning at the Kollwitzmarkt combine well into one weekend. Nearest stops: U2 Senefelderplatz and Tram M2 Marienburger Straße.
