About StayBearlin

Our Mission

We are a laid back Irish-Polish/German couple, and we have been hosting guests in Berlin since 2010. StayBearlin has been a registered business since our Gewerbeanmeldung in 2020. We rent ten holiday apartments across five buildings in Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain and Pankow, and we run them ourselves.

We are passionate about helping you make the most of your stay and discovering sides of Berlin which are unique and exciting. This is why we have a created an extensive guidebook, which you will find in all of our vacation rentals. Want a little preview? Everything we know about our own neighbourhoods is on this website too, free and without a booking. Check out the Berlin section of our website.

Our Journey

We purchased our first property as a side project in 2010 when we first moved to Berlin and had time to spare on our hands. As it worked well, we purchased and renovated our second vacation apartment with the help of family. After a major accident, which caused permanent health issues, we decided we had to go all in on the business, since any 9 to 5 job was no longer an option for us. What started as a necessity has by now turned into our passion and full-time occupation.
Today we have ten apartments in five buildings, and we still answer every enquiry ourselves.

Legal, and not at Berliners' expense

All of our holiday rentals are in commercial spaces, which we have lovingly renovated and rebuilt. Because they sit on commercial premises rather than residential ones, Berlin's Zweckentfremdungsverbot does not apply to them and no Registriernummer is required. Our apartments take no living space away from Berliners, so you can book with a clear conscience and without contributing to the housing shortage in Berlin.

What our apartments are like

Every apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, a double bed of at least 160x200 cm, a private bathroom, mostly with a shower and sometimes with a bathtub, and free WiFi. Our apartments range from 32 to 60 square metres and sleep two to four guests. Bed linen and towels are included, and the whole apartment is always yours alone. You never share with other guests or with a host. Every apartment has a comfortable sofa so you can relax after a long day of exploring Berlin.

We do not provide televisions. We therefore recommend that our guests bring a laptop with them.

Who stays with us

Our apartments are in quiet residential streets rather than tourist or nightlife areas. They suit couples, families and business travellers who want a good night's sleep and a real neighbourhood to come home to. We do not accept party or event bookings.

Children aged 2 and under stay free of charge. Baby travel cots are available in any apartment for a one-off set-up fee, and many of our apartments have toys and books for children.

Booking directly with us

You can book any StayBearlin apartment directly with us. Booking direct means no platform service fee and direct contact with the owners rather than a call centre, for the same apartments you would find on Airbnb or Booking.com. We are a small owner-run business, not an agency or a property management company, and we answer enquiries ourselves.

Donations

We at StayBearlin want to help contribute to making the world a better place.

We donated to the Against Malaria Foundation. For the donation a total of 5,502 long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets were bought and distributed in the Kinshasa Province in the Congo (Dem. Rep.). The nets will protect around 9,900 people when they sleep from bites, severe illness or even death. This is the equivalent of around 20 entire villages, which will not only sleep better at night, but also be better protected from the often debilitating effects of malaria.

According to estimates from the against Malaria Foundation, these "nets can be expected to save 3 to 4 lives, avert 1,500 to 4,000 cases of malaria and improve the local economy by €120,000. When people are ill they cannot farm, drive, teach – function, so the improvement in health leads to economic as well as humanitarian benefits."

We also contributed to Doctors without borders.
